Way of LifeThe Way of Life The Way of Life is a minsitry of the Diocese of Egypt to addicts, providing treatment, rehabilitation, after-care and family support to drug addicts. "Addiction" can be defined as "an obsession, compulsion, or excessive physical dependence or psychological dependence, such as: drug addiction, video games, crime, alcoholism, compulsive overeating, problem gambling, computer addiction, pornography, etc..." In cases of addiction, the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops a dependency on the substance. The Way of Life serves many different types of addicts; the ministry focuses, however, on drug addicts.
The Way of Life is a Christian drug rehabilitation and anti-drug program established in January 2008, based on the work of Dr. Emil Zaky who, in his prior medical post, successfully worked with addicts. The Way of Life is the only Christian anti-drug programme in the North Coast of Egypt, located 44km from Alexandria, the second largest city in Egypt. The headquarters for the Way of Life program is located in Alexandria, at St. Mark's Pro-Cathedral. The Way of Life has a compound where addicts come and stay, seek counseling, find physical and spiritual help for addictions.
Our goal is to evangelize addicts with the Gospel and give them the chance to have Jesus Christ as Savior and make them disciples and members of a Christian Church, and a witness for the Lord.
Drug addiction is a big problem in Egypt; there are around eight million people using drugs regularly. The addicts who come to the Way of Life come from poor backgrounds and cannot pay the cost of treatment for their addiction. While many people believe that addicts and drug dealers are rich, the reality is that they are very poor and go from fix to fix. The most serious addicts are unwilling to seek treatment until they have lost all of their financial resources, and often, friend and family.
On March 15th 2009, three former drug addicts graduated from the Way of Life.

Pentecost 2010My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, at Pentecost, the Church received the Holy Spirit. This was in fulfilment of Jesus' promise to his disciples "wait until you receive power from on high" Acts 1:8. With receiving the Holy Spirit the disciples received a power to share the Good News within Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the rest of the world. The Holy Spirit still empowers the church today to advance Christ's mission. Jesus Christ and his disciples showed us how we can share the Good News with the people around us. |
