Support for Bishop Duncan
My Dear Bishop Duncan, Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Times Online Article with Bishop Mouneer(8 August 2008) Mouneer Anis, Bishop of Eygpt and Primate of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East Closing Letter to Lambeth(Sunday 3 August 2008) WE, the bishops of the Diocese of Egypt, North Africa and the Horn of Africa, wish to express our appreciation and thankfulness for the Lambeth Conference now ended. It has been a great joy to experience the fellowship, mutual support and counsel of fellow bishops from around the world. This conference has been a most valuable opportunity to express our thoughts and concerns and to listen to the concerns of others. "Stand Firm" with Bishop Mouneer(Friday 1 August 2008) I am glad I came to this conference. It has given me a great opportunity to learn, listen to others, debate and share my views openly. It has been a great joy to meet many friends and to make new friends who love the Lord and are committed to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ by word and deed. I have heard many inspiring stories from colleagues who put their lives at risk and suffer in order to stay faithful to God and His Church. I cannot describe the encouragement we received from and the fellowship with our ecumenical partners, especially the Coptic Orthodox. Bishop Mouneer in a BBC Sunday BroadcastOn Sunday 27 July, Bishop Mouneer participated in a BBC broadcast with The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and other bishops. The recording can be found at the following link: The Times Online interview with Bishop Mouneer+Mouneer's views from Lambeth (Part 1)26 July (Lambeth) I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your prayers. God hears our prayers and in His time, answers them. The Lambeth Conference has been a time of great fellowship and strength; it has also been a time of disunity and conflict. Everything is going fairly well, but I do not believe that there is hope of a solution from this Lambeth conference. The British newspaper Telegraph describes our bishop Mouneer:Mouneer Anis - Bishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East: One of the key moderates whom the Archbishop of Canterbury has to keep on side in the Anglican debate over homosexuality. The Cairo-based Primate has found himself in a hard place between militant Islamists who have attacked Christians, and the western liberalism which they decry. He also walks a tightrope between opposition to the Episcopal Church’s divisive appointment of practising homosexuals, and militant opposition from sub-Saharan colleagues. Bishop's report July 2008Thank you for your prayers and support over the past few months. This has been an extremely busy time in the life of the Diocese of Egypt and for the Anglican Communion as a whole. I am reminded in the Old Testament that the people would constantly forget the Lord their God and turn to the gods of their neighbors. They wanted to be like the other nations. In response to their falling away, the prophets continually called the people to repent and to return to Lord their God. We are facing the same situation today.
